Something I noticed about being a living sacrifice.

I have read this verse plenty of times. You know, we tend to read and re-read verses over and over again. Soon they become mechanical and can lose meaning to us if we are careful. This time was different. Here is the verse in NASB translation:

"Therefore I urge you, brethren, by the mercies of God, to present bodies as living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is your spiritual service of worship".
Romans 12:1

I have discussed this verse with several people over the years about the ways we could apply it and become more like Christ. By they way, Paul urges us to do this because it is our responsibility as children of God to give Him the worship that is due. How actually do you become a "living sacrifice"? Well God reveals the first step in the first part of the verse. Paul urges us, by the "mercies of God". What is mercy? It is not getting what we deserve, which is eternal condemnation. Mercy gives us what we don't deserve and that is God's love. On that note, why would we not want to live a life pleasing to God? I mean He did send His Son to save us and redeem us to Himself. That alone deserves nothing less than our ALL. To answer the rest of the question. We can daily become this the less we are like the world and what "it" wants for us. You know the world tells you it is ok to only be concerned with ourselves. The very opposite of God's will. Move on to verse 2:

"And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2

The Lord says by renewing our minds in Him and not being conformed to this world. Get rid of the crap we involve ourselves in everyday and replace it with the Word of God which IS His perfect will.
