To start off, I really don't listen to any secular music. Not to say all secular music is bad. I "overhear" it at work and for the most part, it is tuned into the country station. I know a lot of my Christian friends who listen to country music. That is not my taste. However I was paying attention to one particular song the other day. I noticed the chorus goes "God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy." I found it a little odd. If God is great, then the next in line is beer? Then I thought about James 3:9-12. This song praises God for His goodness and in the next 2 breaths praises the practices of this world and calls people crazy! Sounds to me like this song is downgrading other people.
James 3:10 says "Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be."
I can see it now. We let out of church service after praising God. Then we clap in approval after some of those "crazy people" joins our church. We get in our car and it is set to 94.9 the bull. The songs on air. Singing it as we pull out. God is great, beer is good, and people are crazy. Without even realizing it we have spit in the face of God. I wonder how God feels about our inconsistency? Here is the response of people to profess to be Christians about this song. "It must be a good song. Thet talk about God in it."
No wonder why our Christian witnesses are not much good.
